ThxSoMch on “Would You?” — Vulnerability, Longing, and the Duality of Love

Toronto-born artist ThxSoMch (real name Carter De Filippis) has built his career on emotional intensity and genre fusion. From his debut single “Runaway (Move Quick)” in 2022 to his viral breakout “Spit in My Face!” — which racked up over 565 million Spotify streams and charted worldwide — he’s proven that raw emotion and a unique sonic identity can cut through the noise.

Now, with “Would You?”, he’s taking a softer, more introspective turn.

Q: Your earlier material, especially “Spit in My Face!”, had more aggressive, hardcore elements. “Would You?” feels completely different. Why the change?
ThxSoMch: I didn’t want to get stuck in one lane. I’ve always had this side of me — more melodic, more vulnerable — but I think it’s scary to show it sometimes. “Would You?” is about letting that guard down. No screaming, no walls, just honesty.

Opening with a moody, melodic intro, “Would You?” immediately sets a reflective tone. The song’s verses weave between joy and unease, painting the duality of love in vivid detail.

Q: The chorus repeats the question “Would you?” almost like a mantra. What does that line mean to you?
ThxSoMch: It’s that constant wondering in a relationship — would you be there for me, would you stay if things got hard, would you love me the same? It’s not a statement, it’s a plea. That repetition is how those thoughts loop in your head when you care about someone.

The accompanying music video mirrors the song’s emotional weight, blending dark, atmospheric visuals with a storyline that adds depth without overexplaining.

Q: Your videos always feel like an extension of the song instead of just a visual add-on. How do you approach them?
ThxSoMch: The visuals have to feel like part of the same world. For “Would You?” I wanted it to be cinematic but intimate — something that amplifies the emotion without distracting from it.

Since its release, “Would You?” has already pulled in over 15 million Spotify streams, a testament to its immediate connection with fans.

Q: Did you expect the response to be this big?
ThxSoMch: Honestly, no. I thought maybe the softer vibe would throw some people off, but the messages I’ve gotten have been crazy. People saying they feel seen, that it’s their story too — that means more than any number.

With “Would You?”, ThxSoMch continues to blur the lines between emo rap’s confessional lyricism and indie rock’s melodic pull — and he’s not showing signs of slowing down.

“Every song is another piece of the puzzle,” he says. “I don’t know exactly where it’s going yet, but I know it’s honest. That’s all I care about.”
